How Nearly 10 Tonnes of Donations Are Changing Lives in Kenya

In February 2026, Bag2Charity customers made 526 collections totalling nearly 10 tonnes of donated items. Here's where it went and the lives it's helping to change on Funzi Island and in Bodo village, Kenya.

Every Bag Travels Further Than You Think

When you leave a donation bag on your doorstep for a Bag2Charity collection, it's easy to think of it as a small act. A clear-out. A bit of extra space in the wardrobe. But the journey that bag takes after collection tells a much bigger story.

In February 2026, Bag2Charity customers across the UK made 526 collections, donating a combined 9,855kg of clothing and household items. Every kilogram of that goes towards supporting causes that genuinely need it, including one very special charity partner.

Meet The Funzi and Bodo Trust

The Funzi and Bodo Trust is a UK charity founded by Ashley Peatfield, dedicated to transforming lives in two remote Kenyan communities - Funzi Island and Bodo village. These are areas where access to basic services is severely limited, and the charity's work touches almost every aspect of daily life.

On the healthcare side, the Trust runs medical clinics and birthing units, provides immunisations and maternity care, supports people living with disabilities, and delivers health education programmes to help communities prevent illness before it takes hold.

In education, the charity has built schools, libraries, and computer training centres - giving children and young adults access to learning opportunities that simply didn't exist before. Vocational training programmes help young people develop practical skills and build independent futures.

The Trust also tackles poverty at its roots. Through interest-free microloans, local families can start small businesses - whether that's farming, carpentry, or seaweed production - giving them a path to financial independence rather than ongoing reliance on outside support.

And at the most fundamental level, the charity ensures children have enough to eat, teaches sustainable farming, and works to improve access to clean water and proper sanitation across both communities.

Ashley and his team work directly within Funzi and Bodo, building long-term relationships and delivering support where it matters most, with minimal overhead, meaning every pound raised creates real, direct impact on the ground.

In Ashley's Words

These collections are a life blood for the Funzi and Bodo Trust. Children who grow up living in mud huts without running water are now able to go to college or University meaning they can get jobs, support their families and break a cycle of poverty. Others can attend our farm school - learning to grow their own food and generate family incomes. All this thanks to people donating their unwanted items. Thank you!

How Your Donations Make It Happen

The funds and items generated through Bag2Charity collections help power the work of charities like The Funzi and Bodo Trust. When you book a free collection, the value created from your donated items goes towards supporting partner charities - providing a consistent, reliable source of income that smaller organisations can plan around.

For a charity working in remote Kenya, that consistency matters enormously. It means projects can move forward, communities can be supported, and real change can happen - all because someone in the UK decided to donate their unwanted clothes rather than bin them.

526 Collections in One Month

February 2026 was a strong month for Bag2Charity donors. 526 households booked collections, contributing nearly 10,000kg of items between them. That's 10,000kg of clothing, textiles, and household goods that didn't go to landfill, and instead went somewhere they could do real good.

It's a number that puts the scale of collective generosity into perspective. No single donation changes the world on its own. But 526 of them, combined, create something significant.

How to Get Involved

If you'd like your next clear-out to support The Funzi and Bodo Trust or one of our other charity partners, booking a collection takes less than one minutes. Choose your preferred charity, fill a bag with clothes and items you no longer need, and leave it on your doorstep on your chosen date. We'll do the rest.
