Bag2Charity started in Northallerton. It is the town where the idea took shape, where the first collections took place, and where our operations are still based today at Unit 6-7 Omega Business Village on Thurston Road. For us, Northallerton is not just a collection area. It is home.
We have been collecting donated clothing from Northallerton doorsteps since 2020, and the response from the local community has been extraordinary from the very beginning.
When Bag2Charity launched during the COVID-19 lockdowns, nobody quite knew what to expect. What happened exceeded everything we had anticipated. In our very first week of collections in Northallerton, local residents donated over 10 tonnes of clothing.
People were at home, clearing out wardrobes, and looking for a way to do something positive during a difficult time. Bag2Charity gave them a simple, safe, doorstep option and the community responded in a way that set the tone for everything that followed.
That first week told us something important. When donating is made easy, people will donate. Northallerton proved that.
One of our most valued charity partners is Wendy's Wish, a family run charity based right here in Northallerton. Wendy's Wish was set up in memory of Wendy Reed, who passed away on 6th January 2017 after a five year battle with ocular melanoma, a rare form of eye cancer.
The charity was founded by Wendy's family, including her parents Bill and Jill Harker and her husband Dave Reed, with a clear and deeply personal mission: to fund research into all forms of eye cancer, and to support cancer patients and their families who find themselves facing a similarly difficult journey.
All types of eye cancer are rare and attract modest amounts of research funding. Wendy's Wish exists to change that. As Wendy's family put it: "If we can save just one family from going through the same as us, it will all be worthwhile."
When you book a Bag2Charity collection in Northallerton and choose Wendy's Wish as your charity, your donated items directly support this mission. It is a local connection that means a great deal to us.
Being based in Northallerton means more than having a warehouse here. We actively use local businesses and services to run and grow our operations, from vehicle maintenance to supplies and professional services. Every pound we spend locally helps sustain the local economy and the people who live and work in this town.
We are proud to be a Northallerton business. The town supported us when we launched, and we have tried to give that support back in every way we can.
We collect a wide range of items from Northallerton addresses. Clothing of all kinds is welcome, including adult, children's, and baby clothes, shoes, handbags, belts, hats, and accessories. We also accept household textiles like curtains, towels, and bed linen, as well as bric-a-brac including books, kitchenware, toys, ornaments, and small household items.
All items should be clean, dry, and in good condition. Pack them into bags or boxes and leave them on your doorstep on your chosen collection date. You do not need to be home.
Booking takes less than two minutes. Visit our Northallerton collection page, choose your preferred charity, select a date, and you are done. Our team will come to your door and take care of everything from there.
